College Packing List

High School is coming to an end. "Senioritis" has probably kicked in and it is soon (if not already) going to hit full force, but don't worry, the end is in sight!

You and your friends are hyped up about college. Finally getting away from home, new friends, more freedom, and parties. (But don't forget that you are there for learning...)

I am sure that you are wondering what you need to bring to your dorm room.

Here is a list of some of the things that you will need and probably want while you are away from home and getting cozy in your new home. This is a list of things that my college allows us to have but make sure you check with your school to make sure these items are allowed!

  • Clothes- Bring clothes that are appropriate for the climate. If it is a warmer place, don't bring a bunch of sweatshirts! They will just get in your way. If your located in a cooler place, filling your drawers with shorts isn't ideal.
    • Comfortable-  nobody wants to roll out of bed an hour early to get cute for an 8am lab.
    • Going out- once your 18th birthday hits, you will want to hit the club with your friends and will be on the look out for cute guys or hot girls.
    • Professional- You will have a few interviews and meetings that will require looking professional and put together.
    • College is full of FREE T-SHIRTS! You will most likely get so many that you can go two weeks without doing laundry and wear no other shirts than the ones from your school. Keep this in mind when bringing shirts.
  • Shoes
    • LADIES! I know that those pumps will go perfect with that skirt and those boots are perfect with those jeans, but believe me, your shoes will clutter up your closet faster than you can imagine (I learned this the hard way). Pick 4 or 5 shoes that you cannot live without and if you need more, you'll have a whole hall of girls to borrow from.
    • Gentlemen, I think you've got this one under control; just make sure they don't stink.
  • School Supplies -
    • Binders
    • A pack of Pencils
    • A pack of Pens
    • A pack of Highlighters
    • White out
    • Stapler
    • Hole punch
    • Loose leaf paper or a notebook for each class
    • Backpack
    • Laptop is a must!
    • Calculator
    • Don't overdo the school supplies, you will most likely be submitting a lot of assignments online or typing them
  • Toiletries
    • The basic shampoo, conditioner, soap, yadayada... just don't over do it, I have a whole bucket of lotions, soaps, face washes, etc... shoved under my bed that I am struggling to get through.
    • You do not need to hit up SAM'S club and get giant value packs. 1. You do not need that much. 2. You will have no where to put that much stuff.
  • Storage and miscellaneous
    • shoe rack
    • rubbermaid containers
    • baskets
    • shower caddy
    • suitcase and/or bags for traveling home and extra storage space
    • extra blankets, you never know when your best friend from home will come and visit
    • mattress pad
    • a garbage can
    • most schools provide a mini fridge but it doesn't hurt to check with yours
    • some wall decorations, check with your school to make sure you can hang things
      • don't bring too many things to hang, you will be amazed at how many things will add up while you are there!
    • An area rug
    • Musical instruments
    • Sports Gear

This is just a short basic list, but it's really all you need!

Keep in mind that you can always buy more stuff once you get to school so you have a better idea of what you need, and it is so much easier to pack the car when you don't have too much stuff.

I will post any more items that I may think of! If you have any questions regarding what you do and don't need for college, don't hesitate to comment! I will answer you back ;)
